Information Overload: An Artificial Condition?

There's a nice blog post over at Google Blogoscoped with responses to the question: “What are your top tips for dealing with information overflow?”

One of the big take-aways here is that information overload is often self-induced, at least when it comes to RSS and social networks. That said, managing email inbox load is a perpetual challenge for many, and the rise of RSS and social networks is partially due to the desire to keep in touch, but not via emai.

Some quick additional ideas:

  • Use keyword search feeds to monitor critical topics. If it's a big buzz in the blogosphere, you can branch out to wider sources for more.
  • Use your mobile device to make use of downtime in line at the bank or wherever to keep up with topics of interest

The serendipity of keeping up in your world of interest and that information providing huge value in your day to day is what keeps us at infohacks searching for better techniques.
